National Poetry Month

As National Poetry Month comes to a close, I would like to quote a poem written by Shel Silverstein.
“She had blue skin,
and so did he.
He kept it hid,
and so did she.
They searched for blue,
their whole life through.
Then passed right by-
and never new.”

Sometimes it can be hard to be yourself in a society that is telling who you who to be. Why would you try to be anyone except for who you really are, because someone is out there looking for all things that make you, you. There are people who are afraid to express themselves because they don’t want people to judge them. But, what I don’t understand is why we care what other people think about us… if you like yourself and your family and friends like you too, then why care about the people who mean nothing to you. For every one person that supports you, there are probably ten people waiting to bring you down. We need to channel our energy toward overcoming the hate and the judgmental disposition that people have developed today and use it as motivation and appreciation of ourselves. If you want to wear mismatched socks, I don’t see why you can’t do that… if you want your hair to be weird colors, I don’t see why you can’t do that either. The world is limitless, if we learn to stop putting limitations everything. I believe that life is very black and white, there is not really a grey area. If you like something, then keep it in your life or go & get it. If you don’t like something, then don’t. There shouldn’t be people being unsure because of what might or might not happen after the decision. Life is too short to think of the consequences or the rewards that can come out of every decision we make because you actually never know what will happen. Having confidence in yourself and see the good in others because if someone is cranky or rude, they might have lost the confidence they once had in themselves. Together we can help people see the sun shine again and appreciate the green blades of grass and the delicate flowers that are blooming this spring. It only takes one person to want change and once they want that change, it only takes them believing in themselves to make it happen. Be the change you want to see in the world.

Because if you believe you can, then you are already halfway there.
