My World

Margaret Mitchell once said, “life is under no obligation to give us what we expect.”

My name is Kelly; I am a 19 year old girl who knows not where to go with her life. I dance, or at least I used to. The two most important things I own are my dog and my camera. I live in this amazing city full of adventure and thousands of people I haven’t met. That’s my world. My world is bright lights and not many stars in the sky. My world is parallel parking or public transportation. Maybe my world is like yours or maybe it is nothing like it at all. But, I believe that somewhere in this world there is someone else just like you. I know there are people like me; people who are trying to discover themselves and find their place in the world. 

There are occurrences in our lives where we find ourselves at a fork in the road, with no GPS or map to lead the way. Do we act on our confusion, fear, or hopes? Choices you make in desperation can define you for the rest of your life. I always like to believe that we need to go with our first thought. Remember when you took scantron tests and “they” (the infamous ‘they’) always would say to always use your first answer because your second answer is most likely you just second guessing yourself. I take this approach a lot in my life.
I give second chances. More recently, I gave a second chance to someone who once hurt me. My family’s initial approach to the situation was anger; but I believe their anger was not them being mad as much as cautious. Being cautious is something I excel in because with everything I do I consider the aftermath. This is both a flaw and a blessing. I have decided more recently to stop my “what ifs” and to simply just do. If something makes you smile, keep it present. If something makes you sad, get rid of it. I don’t know were I’m going. I don’t know what I am going to do. But I know that who I want to be exists somewhere out there. I will discover myself through handwork, faith, heartaches, fears, lessons, and believing in myself.

So remember life itself is a journey of self discovery. Take the time to sit down and look at the stars. I bet you’ll look at life a lot differently. When you look into this sort of infinity, the realization of what is really important begins to settle in.
